Simon Hatcher was the architect for West Jesmond Primary while he worked for Parsons Brinckerhoff, a new 3 form entry school for 630 pupils. The school was judged Outstanding by Ofsted in May 2015 then soon became a National Teaching School.
The building has 28 classrooms, open learning areas, a library and a music suite with full stage lighting facilities. Technology is an integral part of learning within the school which uses tablets freely in a wireless capacity. The design is energy efficient and sustainable, including features such as a wood pellet biomass boiler. Active, healthy living is encouraged with a soft play space for reception classes, a full size netball court, football pens, and a traversing wall.
