Simon Hatcher was the Architect for St. Mary’s Catholic School in Newcastle Upon Tyne, which has 1150 pupils ranging from 11 to 19 years old. His involvement, throughout the construction of the school, bridged the founding of Hatcher Prichard Architects.
The building is designed to be light, airy and an outstanding climate for teaching and learning. The main hall, sports hall and community facilities are laid out each side of an imposing central entrance and atrium. Radiating from the rear of the atrium, three ‘fingers’ house the school’s main teaching facilities with a formal arrangement of bright and spacious classrooms, laboratories and teaching spaces. The headmaster recently described how the school has now been in the new building for five years and says that it continues to provide an inspirational resource for students and staff alike.
